Connecting with Stakeholders
Valero has a long-standing history of engaging with fenceline communities.
Valero strives to operate as a good neighbor, and looks for opportunities to work with local of昀椀cials and directly with
fenceline neighbors to improve the quality of life for neighbors and communities. Valero aims to treat its fenceline
neighbors fairly, regardless of race, color, national origin, culture or income. We work to ensure our neighbors have an
opportunity to understand our proposed activities and to provide them with a meaningful opportunity to have their
concerns heard, with the goal of providing them with greater comfort in our operations.34
To better understand exactly how crude oil moves
from global waters into the re昀椀nery for processing,
the Wilmington Re昀椀nery Community Advisory
Panel (CAP) took a tour of a crude oil tanker for an
in-depth walkthrough and explanation of maritime
crude logistics.
Neighbors and Community Advisory
Councils/Panels
We work to ensure our neighborhoods understand
our proposed activities, and we strive to provide
them with opportunities to have their concerns heard.
Our re昀椀neries participate in community advisory councils
(CACs) or community advisory panels (CAPs) that consist
of different stakeholders who hold meetings throughout the
year. These meetings are opportunities for Valero personnel
to share with our community information on our operations
and receive input and questions from our neighbors.
In addition to these CAP or CAC meetings, we also provide
different outreach options to engage with our neighbors,
such as a community information line, newsletters, direct
mailings, electronic noti昀椀cations or websites with details
on past, present or future activities.
